Student Visa

Student's visa are for people looking to undertake a recognized course by the Australian Government.

These are some of the options:

English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)
Applies to stand-alone General English language courses that lead to a certificate I, II, III or IV in the English that result in no formal Australian award.

Primary or secondary school course
Applies to primary, junior secondary or senior secondary school courses, and approved secondary school exchange programs.

Vocational education and training
Applies to Certificates I, II, III or IV (except ELICOS), diploma, advanced diploma, vocational graduate certificate or vocational graduate diploma courses.

Higher education
Applies to a Bachelor degree, associate degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma, or Masters by coursework.

Postgraduate research
Applies to Masters by research or a doctoral degree.

Non-award
Applies to non-award foundation studies, or other full-time courses or components of courses not leading to an Australian award.

AusAID and Defence
Applies to students sponsored by AusAID or the Australian Department of Defence undertaking full-time courses of any type.

Student Guardians
Parents or relatives can apply for a visa to stay in Australia as the guardian of a student who is studying in Australia. In order to obtain a student visa the student must enrol for, at least, 14 weeks in a recognized course and institution. This visa enables the student and their partner to work in Australia up to 20 hours per week when the course is in session and full time when on holidays. This permission is already included in the visas issued by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

Tourist Visa

Tourist visa (subclass 676)
A temporary visa allowing a stay in Australia of up to three (3) or six (6) or 12 months. Applicants can apply from both outside and in Australia.

This visa allows people to visit Australia for a holiday or recreation, or to visit family and/or friends. This visa may also be used for other short-term non-work purposes including study for less than three months.

The average waiting time to obtain a tourist visa is 5 to 10 working days. This time may be longer during high seasons.
